Welcome to Del Dios!
Are you new in town or considering buying property in Del Dios?
If you've bought a house or lot with a water meter on it, contact the Del Dios Mutual Water Company to start your water service and obtain your share certificate. If you are thinking about buying a lot or house in town, check first to make sure there is a water share and meter appurtenant to it.
You see, the company does not issue new shares, and shares come with the existing lot: you can't buy or sell them. This means that if your potential lot or building does not already have water service, then there is no water service available for that lot. In other words, it is not buildable, even if your real estate agent didn't tell you. We have had basically the same number of shares (and water connexions) since we started 90 years ago. The only way to create a new share would be by obtaining a two-thirds majority vote of all of the current shareholders at an Annual or Special Meeting, in order to issue one new share. Hodgee the Lake Monster has appeared more often than that has ever happened!
Yup, we own our own water rights. Del Dios is not dependent on the Colorado River, the San Joaquin River Delta, the San Diego or Los Angeles Metropolitan water systems, or anyone else to sell us water. We obtain our fresh clear water from our own wells deep in the granite earth below us, as we have for generations.
What this means is that the area served by the Del Dios Mutual Water Company remains stable, sustainable, open, and quasi-rural and that we'll hopefully have water resources for a very long time, as we have been able to provide for our residents for the last 90 years.
For more information on how to activate your water service or whether a particular lot has a water share, please call or email the Company.
